The Sho Rei Shobu Kan organization is based in Lincoln, Nebraska. It was founded on October 1st, 1972 by Kancho John Roseberry for the purpose of maintaining and teaching the art of Karate-do. The organization was expanded on January 1st, 1994 to include various other martial arts of similar philosophy, and the name was changed from the Sho Rei Shobu Kan Goju Ryu Organization to the Sho Rei Shobu Kan Budo Organization.
Drawing from the principles of his teachers and mentors, Kanryo Higashionna, Chojun Miyagi, Seikichi Toguchi, Robert Tamm, and others, as well as respected associates such as Matayoshi Shinpo, Kancho Roseberry organized and developed a system of teaching martial arts (budo) which has become the basis of Sho Rei Shobu Kan Goju Ryu Karate-do.
The principles of modern warriorship and a dedication to our fellow man, the true spirit of martial practice, form the guiding principles for this organization. Bushido (the way of the warrior) is the heart of all modern budo. Through budo one strives to improve the spirit, body and mind while following the ways of compassion, mutual assistance and peace. The members of the Sho Rei Shobu Kan Organization strive to preserve and teach this philosophy.
